How we research
Plainly: we compare published information. We don't run a lab, and we don't buy every product we write about.
What we use
- Manufacturer data: spec sheets, manuals and product pages for sizes, power, capacity and features.
- Retailer prices: listed prices on the retailer's own site on the date shown at the top of each guide.
- Verified owner reviews: patterns in reviews from verified buyers, such as common faults or set-up problems.
- Official guidance: sources like the NHS, GOV.UK, the Planning Portal and the US Energy Information Administration where they apply.
What we don't do
- We don't give star ratings, scores or "winner" badges.
- We don't claim to have used or measured products ourselves unless a guide says exactly what we did.
- We don't publish quotes from customers, or reviews written for us.
- We don't let retailers or brands pay to be included or to change what we write.
Calculators
Our calculators use simple, visible formulas and default values you can change. They give estimates, not quotes. Use your own energy tariff, prices and measurements.
Health products
For hearing aids we explain options and costs. We're not clinicians. Our hearing guide points you to an audiologist or GP, and we don't make medical claims.
Keeping guides up to date
Prices and models change. Each guide shows the date we last checked it. If you spot something out of date, please tell us.
How we're funded
Some links on our guides are, or will become, affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission from the retailer at no extra cost to you. See our affiliate disclosure.
